House of the Merchant's Guild The IFL workshop takes place in the historic House of the Merchant's Guild, Breite Straße 6-8, conveniently located in the heart of Lübeck's old town. Residing on the same premises since 1495, the Merchant's Guild of Lübeck built the current neogothic structure in 1838/39. Though being relatively young itself the building houses three historic rooms dating back to the 16th and 17th century. Their interiors were brought here from its predecessor buldings and other merchant's houses of Lübeck during construction. Innovationszentrum Lübeck has some pictures and explanations (in German, sorry) on their web pages. Look for "Haus der Kaufmannschaft".

Innovationszentrum Lübeck Today Innovationszentrum Lübeck operates the historic House of the Merchant's Guild as a modern conference facility and office space for startup companies. Unfortunately (or fortunately, just as you like), IFL well not be held in one of the historic rooms, but in the modern conference room equipped with beamer, overhead projector, and flip chart.

Getting there by bus (10 minutes)

From the central bus terminal ("ZOB") close to the hotels take any of the following lines to bus stop "Koberg".

The different bus lines take one of two alternative routes through the old town. If "Koberg" is your 4th stop, the House of the Merchant's Guild is just on the opposite side of the street. If "Koberg" is your 5th stop, cross the street, walk 50 metres alongside St. Jacob's church passing by a small children's playground.

Bus tickets are available from the driver or from the central bus terminal ticket office. The fare is 1.75 EUR.

Getting there by walking (15-20 minutes)

From the hotels walk towards the busy roundabout ("Lindenplatz"), from where you easily spot Lübecks landmark city gate ("Holstentor"). Pass by Holstentor on either side of the square in front of it and continue uphill on the street behind the gate. Having reached the top, turn left into Lübeck's main pedestrian's mall ("Breite Straße"). Walk all the way towards St. Jacob's church. The House of the Merchant's Guild is on the left hand side shortly after the street has resumed traffic.

Alternatively, turn left immediately after passing by Holstentor before crossing the Trave bridge. Take the promenade on the left bank of river Trave up the old iron combined car/train bridge. The Trave promenade offers splendid views on Lübecks old town and the old ships of the museum harbour, in particular in the afternoon. Cross the busy old iron bridge and leave traffic behind you when strolling up the narrow street in front of you ("Engelsgrube"). Walk all the way uphill until you reach an open square ("Koberg"). Turn right and reach the House of the Merchant's Guild after a few steps.
