For all those who like to stay another day in Lübeck or who simply
have to wait for their return flight on Sunday, we organize a post-workshop
excursion on Saturday, September 11th, not a good day to fly home, anyways.
Meeting at the conference hotels, a short bus ride brings us to the river
Wakenitz, Lübeck's second river, where we embark on a small river
boat.
Tour operators praise the river Wakenitz as the Amazonas of the North.
This is certainly not due to its size, but due to the pristine nature
and the rich wildlife surrounding the river.
In about 1hour45, the river boat brings us to Rothenhusen, where the
river Wakenitz meets lake Ratzeburg.
Once Rothenhusen was a military outpost of the city of Lübeck
to guard the entrance to the river.
Today the building dating back to the 16th century houses a popular
restaurant.
After a small break (maybe lunch), we continue our journey on a lake
boat, which brings us in little more than an hour to the city of Ratzeburg.
First mentioned in 1062, the city is situated at an outstanding
strategic position on a rather small island between two lakes.
We will visit the the old town and the cathedral built by Henry the
Lion, the founder of Lübeck, between 1154 and 1220.
After dinner in a local restaurant, we return to Lübeck by public transport.
This excursion is not part of the workshop.
Some organizational details depend on the rough number of participants,
but expect to pay 20 EUR per person for the various means of transport.
Lunch and dinner are on your own; we will make reservations depending
on the number of participants.
If you would like to participate in the post-workshop excursion,
please let us know on the registration page.
Any organizational details will be announced during the workshop.
